Dark Nature received negative reviews from critics. Joseph Howell, reviewing the film for the Scottish newspaper Daily Record said the cast "look as though they've come straight from the Milngavie amateur dramatics society," but that the film was so bad it had its own charm. He commented "The movie's writer is the film critic Eddie Harrison and I could be cruel and say stick to the day job. But I have complete admiration for him and director Marc de Launay for getting it off the ground and creating a film that has 'cult following' written all over it. " Film website Talk of Horrors said "it's never that scary or intriguing", and that "all of the characters are extremely annoying," giving it a 2. 5 out of 10 score. Website Mad Mad Movies said the film has "pretty atrocious CG gore. "
